I had a good childhood: playing baseball, football and swimming, excelling in music (trumpet playing), and receiving very good grades in school. After High School, I joined the Army and was stationed overseas for 2 years. After my initial military serve, I served as a missionary for my church in both Brazil and St. Louis, Missouri. After my service to God and my country, I went back to college to further my studies in the areas of physical therapy and business management specializing in Finance. During this time, I worked in several hospitals and clinics for 3 years and also started a financial services agency. All of this, while serving part-time in the National Guard as a counter-intelligence agent with a top secret clearance and working as a real estate property manager. After graduating from college, I grew my financial services business in 2 states with 3 offices of my own. While developing curriculum and assisting other fellow offices around me, I was asked to be the corporate trainer over 17 states and 975 office. That opportunity led me to becoming certified as a master facilitator of Franklin Covey courses. I then train trainers to teach classes on: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, First-Things-First & 4 Roles of Leadership. I also created financial classes based on the needs of over 80,000 financial services agents. Upon the sale of that company, I went on and started my own financial education company, a mortgage lender, an insurance agency, a real estate coaching company and a real estate development company. I owned 7 companies and owned real estate properties from coast-to-coast.
Things were going well until I trusted the wrong people and invested in a company that misrepresented what they were doing and lost most of mine, and some of my family member’s, money. I testified before the SEC along with two other large investors hoping to get some of our money back. When we tried to put in a claim to the funds that were seized, the SEC representatives laughed and then turned on us. The actual perpetrators eventually went to prison, but as for me and the other investors, we were added as defendants so the SEC won’t have to pay us back. Over the process of defending ourselves, the SEC kept dragging things out until we were each out of money and were coerced into settling with the government so they would finally leave us alone. This is how some 3 letter government agencies work. When they go after the wrong person, they go too far that they can’t quit until they find something wrong or force you into a settlement, to save face, instead of realizing their mistake and just moving on.
This attack by the SEC led to a business partner taking advance of the situation and stealing my intellectual property as well as misrepresenting to get money from me saying he would keep my companies going while I battled the SEC. One misfortune after another occurred and eventually all of my companies and hard work was taken advantage of and destroyed. At this point I was broke and struggling to repay the few hand full of investors I had that helped me grow my original companies. The former person that stole my intellectual property, knew one of my investors and got them to change their story to cover-up his misdeeds, using the poorly worded SEC press release about my settlement with them as a means to convince my investor that I was a bad person. My investor never complained and knew I was doing everything possible to repay their loan to my mortgage company. The problem occurred when the investor’s money hungry heirs went to the media, not knowing the facts. My attorneys were interviewed by the media and none of the actual facts regarding the SEC assault were every published. Instead, the despicable reporter made up a ficticious story in order to sell news. I should have sued the news channel for defamation and reporting false information for their gain, but I was destitute, lost everything including my home, and couldn’t even afford proper legal help. To make matters worse, the State picked up on the made up news story and decided to come up with criminal charges solely because my investor wasn’t paid back in full. I had already spent several hundreds of thousands of dollars with a local attorney firm to have them poorly defend me against the SEC. Now I was broke, homeless and having to defend myself again. Of course the attorneys put their hand out, but I was completely out of money and struggling to take care of my wife and 5 children. I went to a preliminary hearing at the courthouse. The guy that ripped me off was their sitting next to my investor, coaching her on what to say. She was sadly being used as a pawn by this true wrongdoer. No evidence of mine was ever heard by the judge. No proper disclosures, contracts or agreements that I had with my investor were ever presented. Instead, the judge had me in an unprecedented move, thrown into jail where I could not properly get to my evidence and defend myself. While incarcerated my generous brother, unbeknownst to me, was tricked by my former attorneys into paying them $25,000 to allegedly defend me. Instead, they took the money and sent an inexperienced 3rd year law student to represent me. This proved to be a clear case of ineffective counsel. Over 5 months of being kept from my wife and children. Being told my children were being physically abused and also being told that the only way to see my children right away is to take a plea. With over 5 months served and no criminal history, I was told I would be released on 16 months probation if I gave the prosecutor his win by taking a plea and saving the court money. This all was a lie by the "injustice" system. I ended up being coerced into a plea of securities fraud "without intent". The paperwork I signed was never filed with the court, but was switched with paperwork I had never seen until 2 1/2 years later when I won an appeal in a higher court.
Through this process I have learned many things: that the media reports fake news, justice isn't always served and you should never judge another person. I also have learned that you need to protect yourself not just from litigious situations, but also from over reaching government agencies and individuals misusing their power. The greatest lesson learned is forgiveness and to not hold a grudge because it only hurts yourself.
Would you rather have a coach that has been through hell and back, so you don't have to, or would you rather work with an inexperience coach? You choose.
The greatest victory is to pull yourself up from adversity and go and succeed again... Since this set back, I have since started and ran a financial education company, a tech company, a lending business and a consulting company. Most importantly, I have re-discovered my passion for teaching and helping people through life's challenges by using my experience and what I have learned from Stephen Covey, Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Joe Dispenza and others.
I now use my experience to help protect others so that they don't ever go through the hard lessons my family and I have learned because of naiveness.
